International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples – 9 August

Celebrated globally on 9 August each year, the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples aims to raise awareness of indigenous rights and honour the rich tapestry of indigenous cultures around the globe.

The theme this year is ‘Protecting the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in Voluntary Isolation and Initial Contact’, focussing on the relationship between these groups and the natural environment.

The day offers an opportunity for Educators to honour reconciliation efforts and bring First Nations perspectives into OOSH settings, as well as celebrate the culture, heritage, and traditions of the wider global indigenous community.
