The Kids Cottage Middle Harbour is seeking an experienced, proactive and enthusiastic Maternity Leave Cover Director to lead our dynamic and inclusive team!

Salary: Level 6.8 Children Services Award, negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

  • Minimum 9-12 months. With the opportunity to transition into our Senior team as an Educational Leader.

The Centre
The Kids Cottage, Middle Harbour OOSH provides an active, fun and creative program for the Out of School Hours sessions, including vacation care during the school holidays. The centre is filled with collaborative and dedicated educators and a Senior Leadership team to support and enrich the children in our care.

The Role
The full-time position of Maternity Leave Cover Director, at our well-established Mosman centre, will manage the delivery of a high quality, stimulating Out of Hours program that meets the social, emotional and developmental needs of the children attending the centre.

You will be to ensuring the effective day to day centre management including compliance with all regulations and standards relating to the National Quality Framework (NQF).

This role is open due to our current Director going on maternity leave.

To be successful in this role you will manage your responsibilities across the following areas.

  1. Program Leadership, Compliance and Reporting
  • Ensure the program operates within The Kids Cottage Middle Harbour service policies, procedures and standards, meets the National Standards and the School Age Care Framework, My Time Our Place
  • Facilitate the NQF process, including the Quality Improvement Plan
  • Develop, implement and evaluate centre policies and procedures in consolation with staff, Parent Management Committee and all other stakeholders
  • Create an inviting and enjoyable environment for the children and teachers to thrive and develop
  • Model and promote a team approach within the OOSH Centre
  • Create an environment which supports open communication, celebrates successes and recognises strong performance
  1. Business & Risk Management
  • Maintain all administrative systems and records, ensuring they are up to date and accessible
  • Ensure the centre software system, Xplor is operating smoothly and all registrations, bookings and enrolments are complete
  • Manage all financial management and operations of the centre, with accountant support
  • Report the ongoing operations of the centre at the monthly Parent Management Committee including, but not limited to:
    • Programme development
    • Budgets, expenditure and income
    • Notable incidents and accidents per legislative requirements
    • Policy changes
  • Resolve parent grievances, behaviour management and staffing issues
  • Facilitate and assist with staff recruitment, adhering to Equal Employment Opportunity principals
  • Manage staff compliance to Working With Children Checks; centre orientation, awareness of The National Quality Framework and Legislation governing their work, and adherence to Child Protection Legislation and the Early Childhood Australia Code of Ethics
  1. Effective Communication &Relationship Building
  • Develop key relationship with school principal, teachers, parent committee and Department of Education
  • Liaise with parents and develop effective communication to inform them about the program and their children
  • Promote The Kids Cottage Middle Harbour within the local community
  • Liaise with other professionals on matters to do with child development and wellbeing for all children

To be considered for this position you will need:

  • Diploma in Children’s Services, the equivalent or actively working towards
  • Minimum 12 months experience working as a Director/Assistant Director in childcare
  • Have current Child Protection training
  • Current First Aid, Emergency Asthma Management and Anaphylaxis Training
  • Proven skills and experience in the following areas:
    • development and implementation of high quality programs to meet the social, emotional and developmental needs of school aged children;
    • Understanding of developmental needs of school aged children;
    • leadership, training and supervision of staff;
    • use of initiative to problem solve day to day issues;
    • strong communication skills;
    • commitment to quality customer service; and
    • Understanding of the relevant legislation and policies:
      • NQF;
      • mandatory reporting guidelines;
      • continuous learning principles;
      • equal employment opportunities;
      • workplace health and safety; and
      • legal and ethical practice principles
