Educators | Burraneer Activity Centre

Burraneer Activity Centre (or as we affectionately call it– BAC!) is on the lookout for the next Educators to jump in and join the crew.

BAC is a proud not-for-profit incorporated association operated by a volunteer Parent Management Committee that prides itself in offering our educators a wonderful work/life balance, a large range of professional development opportunities and above-award wages.

Located in the beautiful southeast Sydney coastline on Dharawal Land, we are looking for two senior Outside School Hours Care Educators who engage with our children, families and the broader community of our service by developing positive relationships through enriching educational experiences.

So, how do you know if you’re the right fit for us?
The below outlines what we expect from our Educators; how many can you tick?!

  • A warm smiling face that makes every child feel special.
  • A willingness to laugh at jokes you don’t necessarily understand or find funny!
  • A little bit of quirkiness! For example, if a child invites you to our BAC play café, you be the most
enthusiastic customer (or worker) they’ve ever seen!
  • Feel comfortable enough to tell everybody in the same room as you, that you’re going to the bathroom!
We don’t monitor breaks but need to know we’re all well stationed for supervision.
  • The ability to sing in tune is not necessary. However, the confidence to become a performer (as out of
tune as it may be!) in front of a crowd is desirable.
  • The skills required to rapidly do headcounts of numerous moving small people, are of the utmost
    importance.
  • To feel comfortable entering public places on the way home from work, often with unknown substances
    on your clothing.
  • Have a high level of comfort around talking about bodily functions and have a strong sense of smell to
enable you to respond to said bodily functions.
  • The ability to read a fairy tale, upside down, with at least 4 interruptions per page.
  • You must be prepared to have lots of fun in the workplace. Laughter is something you can expect to
engage in for a large part of your working day.
  • Finally, you must be prepared to feel loved/special/important to many young children and their families.
The older kiddos will give you a run for your money – so be up for the challenge to play any sport/game
under the sun, regardless of your skillset. I trust you’re getting the gist now – we’re proactive about our
    play!!

As per legal requirements, our educators will also need:

  • Experience and interest in working with children aged 5 – 12 years old
  • Willingness to attend and be involved in professional development, staff meetings and subsequent
    documentation.
  • A current Working with Children Check
  • A current First Aid Certificate HLTAID012 (or willingness to obtain)
  • CHCPRT001 Current child protection training (or willingness to obtain)
  • Preferably fully vaccinated for Covid-19 (boosters included)
  • Demonstrated ability to be a team player and work co-operatively with all educators
  • 2 x checkable work references from previous Supervisors (ready for us to call)

If you believe you fit the bill, please send your CV and a cover letter outlining your interest ASAP to
