All staff, whether paid or voluntary, have a duty to keep young people safe and to protect them from physical and emotional harm. This duty is in part exercised through the development of respectful, caring and professional relationships between staff and children.
Code of Conduct – Child Protection
Please take a look at these new additional resources related to Child Protection. All services have a duty of care to keep children safe and should be aware of their legal responsibilities in relation to reportable misconduct. These resources have been developed in consultation with key stakeholders including the NSW Ombudsman.
The Sample Code of Conduct – Child Protection compliments the Code of Professional Practice and should be signed by all staff on commencing employment. Please adapt to suit your needs.

Child Safe Organisation Training offered by The Office of The Children’s Guardian
The Office of the Children’s Guardian is running a free workshop to assist participants with implementing best practice principles for Child Safe Organisations in their workplace.
What you will learn: • Tips and tools to make our organisation more child safe • Policies, procedures and guidelines • Situational prevention • Risk management strategies • Your obligations under the Working With Children Check • Recruitment of staff / volunteers and selection tips • Complaints handling procedures Participants will receive a workbook with helpful information and templates.
Participants who remain for the entire duration of the workshop will also receive a certificate of attendance.
